The faculty members of the department briefed the Vice President about the research activities of the Centre which focus on varied issues relating to the Central Asian countries including the revival of Silk Route, an official spokesman said.
The Vice President was presented details about the work so far done by this Centre, since its establishment in 1978, he said.
The topics of historical importance and contemporary relevance are among the main focus of the ongoing research activities of the Centre, its director G R Jan said.
The department regularly brings out its journal as well as the Central Asian Digest and organises workshops, conferences and other relevant programmes, he said.
The latest issue of the Central Asian Digest was released in presence of the Governor N N Vohra and Vice Chancellor of the University Talat Ahmad.
Vohra, who is also chancellor of the University, suggested the Vice Chancellor to consider establishment of School of Central Asian Languages for the larger benefit of the researchers.
