: Left parties staged a joint demonstration at the Head Post Office here, condemning the 'unchecked rise in corruption' under the NDA rule in the country.
Alleging that the country has been witnessing corruption ever since the BJP led NDA came to power at the Centre, CPI Puducherry unit secretary R Viswanathan lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being out of India for most part of the year and remaining silent even as the Vyapam scam had been exposed.
"Around 50 persons had died in the wake of the scam and the country was witnessing corruption everywhere ever since BJP led NDA came to power," he said.
The Lalit Modi controversy and also insecurity to the people has tarnished the image of the country, he said, adding that Left parties had organised the anti corruption day today to bring to focus the 'failure' of the Central government on various issues.
Criticising the AINRC government here,he said though Chief Minister N Rangasamy was extending support to the NDA, the Union Territory had been let down by the Centre on several counts. Debts due from the UT to the Centre had accumulated to several crores over the years, he said and demanded to know what steps the CM had taken to ensure waiver of the loans.
CPI(M) Puducherry unit Secretary R Rajangam said farmers were committing suicide in several parts of the country due to the burden of debt. The Centre had 'failed' farmers, labourers and also unemployed youth, he said.
Leaders of the CPI(M.L), RSP and a few other left parties also spoke.
