The operator of city-based Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has conducted a full -scale anti-hijack mock exercise in collaboration with multiple stakeholders to test their preparedness to deal with a hijack situation.
GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) said the exercise was conducted at the airside of the airport in presence of senior officials of the company, Telangana and Central Government last week.
A bus was used as a dummy hijacked aircraft for this drill, a release from GMR said today.
The full-scale anti-hijack mock drill is conducted at every airport annually as mandated by the National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP). The drill's aim is to test the efficiency of airport's contingency plan and to familiarise all agencies about their respective responsibilities in a hijack situation, it said.
Commenting on the exercise, SGK Kishore, CEO of GHIAL said, "We have been successfully conducting all mandatory exercises to ensure that the Hyderabad airport is fully geared up to take up any crisis situation. We work closely with all Government agencies, airlines and other stakeholders to handle any situation at the airport."
As per the contingency plan, various critical zones were invoked to address the mock crisis situation. This is the ninth year in succession that GHIAL has conducted the exercise, the release added.
