Minister of State in PMO V Narayanasamy today alleged that the recent attack on his camp office and on the Sri Aurobindo Ashram here were instances of how anti-social elements were ruling the roost in Puducherry under the guise of the Lankan Tamils issue.
Around 150 activists of a pro-Tamil outfit were arrested on March 20 when they pelted stones at the premises of the camp office and also for burning effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
The attack on the camp office a few days ago by "certain lawless groups" and also the attack on the Aurobindo Ashram on Thursday were "instances of how anti-social elements are ruling the roost in Puducherry under the garb of Lankan Tamils issue," Narayanasamy said in a statement here.
The Puducherry Chief Minister should ensure that there was rule of law and police should bring to book those indulging in violence, he said, adding, there should be no room for any soft attitude on the part of police towards these groups.
On the Lankan Tamils issue, he said the UPA government had already made it clear that it would always be in support of the welfare of Tamils in the island Republic.
