In the meeting, the Defence Minister reviewed the operational preparedness of the armed forces in their respective areas of deployment, Ministry officials said.
The meeting was also expected to discuss the security situation in the Northeast and Jammu and Kashmir, they said.
The Defence Minister holds these meetings with the Services chiefs on a routine basis.
The meeting also reviewed the progress made in the coastal security in view of the recent inauguration of the coastal radar network by the Defence Minister in Mumbai and Porbandar in Gujarat.
The three Service chiefs, including Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne and General Bikram Singh and Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma, were present in the meeting also attended by National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon.
