"Thank you my India for this honour. I will continue to serve my country to the best of my abilities," he said after receiving the honour from President Pranab Mukherjee at the civil investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The 61-year-old actor also said he was getting "flashback" of his beginning as a small town boy while getting ready to receive the country's third highest civilian award.
"As I get ready for Padma Awards ceremony, I have a flashback of my life. Journey of a small town boy. Thank You India for the Love. Padma Bhushan," he tweeted before leaving for the ceremony.
Kher has been in the Hindi film industry for more than three decades and has acted in many films like 'Aagman', 'Saaransh', 'Karma', 'Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara' besides others.
