Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF), the CSR arm of direct selling company Amway India, unveiled a Recreation Centre for children of Palli Unnayan Seva Samiti (PUSS) at Naharkanta Village near here today.
The objective of setting up the centre was to facilitate holistic development of girl children of PUSS. Palli Unnayan Seva Samiti is a project Sunrise partner of Amway Opportunity Foundation, an Amway release said.
The newly launched recreation centre was a sequel to the AOF- PUSS primary healthcare centre which was set up in 2012.
All 248 girl children of PUSS studying in class I to class X would be able to enjoy stimulating activities at the recreational centre which has equipment for indoor games like Table Tennis, Carom and Chess and musical instruments like Harmonium, Tabla and Electric Guitar, the release said.
Dedicated teachers would conduct regular classes on varied subjects like self-defence techniques, yoga and meditation, music, dance and drawing for the children and the centre would also impart training on beautician courses to interested girl students in the future, it said.
Diptarang Bhattacharjee, vice president, East, Amway India and a volunteer of AOF, said "The endeavour of AOF is to enable the less-privileged to lead better lives. We have had a long and fruitful relationship with PUSS and we are delighted to take this to an even higher level with the launch of this recreation centre which will provide the much needed support to all students."
Bishnu Prasad Mohapatra, Area Manager, Odisha, Amway India said "We are delighted to present the recreation centre to the girl children of PUSS in Bhubaneswar. AOF is committed to the holistic development of the less privileged children of the society and our continuing support to PUSS is a testimony to that."
AOF's association with PUSS started in 2008 with the launch of a computer centre. Subsequently, AOF undertook annual educational and healthcare sponsorship for the children of PUSS. In 2012 it also set up a 10-bedded healthcare centre for PUSS, the release said.
In 2013, AOF set up a tailoring centre for the girl children and unemployed women living in the neighbouring villages. AOF has further upgraded the computer centre to a vocational centre this year and the centre now conducts a two-year diploma course in computer application, it added.
