The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Wednesday adopted a resolution demanding that the Centre accord special category status for the state and fully implement provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014, immediately.

It also protested the "careless attitude" being displayed by the BJP-led NDA government towards AP and said it was damaging the federal spirit.

"The Centre should respect the sanctity of the parliamentary system and the spirit of the constitution and accord SCS to AP, including tax concessions, as promised by the then Prime Minister (in Rajya Sabha) in 2014," the government resolution moved by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said.

The assembly "seriously objects and protests the careless attitude of the Centre in honouring the promises made to AP (at the time of the unscientific bifurcation in 2014) by the then Prime Minister and also in implementing the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act.

The House resents the stubborn stance of the Centre over this and questions why the SCS promised is not being honoured," the resolution added.

The BJP leader in the Assembly P Vishnu Kumar Raju said his party MLAs (four) would "remain silent" on the resolution, even as he said the Centre had implemented over 90 per cent of the promises made to the state.

Naidu lashed out at the NDA government, recalling his "29 trips" to New Delhi.

"I met the Prime Minister and Union ministers many times to get the act implemented and the SCS promise fulfilled but to no avail. We protested in many ways and ultimately quit the central government and the NDA," he said.
