PCC president N Raghuveera Reddy garlanded a portrait of Gandhi at the party office here and recalled her services to the nation, particularly for the downtrodden.
He said that Gandhi struggled to uplift the poor in the society by introducing a 20-point programme, nationalisation of banks and introducing land reforms. All such programmes benefited the downtrodden by improving their socio-economic conditions.
Reddy also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that he is trying to defame Indira Gandhi by abolishing the schemes for welfare of the poor introduced by her.
The PCC chief demanded that the NDA government should withdraw such actions and re-introduce all the abolished schemes and restore Gandhi's name on the institutions which were established during her tenure.
Former MLAs Malladi Vishnu and Devineni Nehur were also present on the occasion.
