A local court today issued summons to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Brahmins.
Krishna District Second Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate's Court here asked Rao to appear before it in person on July 12.
The court's direction came on a complaint filed by the local unit of Brahmana Yuvajana Sangham (BYS).
In April 2011, BYS Machilipatnam Secretary V Phani Kumar had filed a complaint against Rao over his reported remarks comparing Brahmins of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over their rituals and lifestyle.
BYS had alleged that the TRS chief's remarks were an attempt to divide the Brahmins and belittle the members of the community residing in Seemandhra.
Last year, the court asked the police to conduct an inquiry into the issue. However, the police could not complete its probe, prompting BYS to approach the court seeking issuance of summons to Rao, who took over as Chief Minister on June 2.
