Keen to relocate to the state's "ad hoc capital" Vijayawada from Hyderabad at the earliest, the Andhra Pradesh government today constituted a three-member committee of principal secretaries to examine shifting of offices of the heads of departments.
Besides being the ad hoc capital, Vijayawada region will eventually become the permanent capital of the state, though the exact location for this has not been fixed yet.
The committee, comprising principal secretaries of finance, roads and buildings and municipal administration departments, shall examine the heads of departments whose offices have to be shifted from Hyderabad "on priority".
"It will also look into the place/places where the HoD offices are to be located, the quantum of office space/accommodation required and rental and other issues like accommodation needed for officials and employees who are likely to be moved to the places where HoDs are shifted and the prevailing rates of house rents there," according to an order issued by state Chief Secretary I Y R Krishna Rao.
The committee would also fix the time-frame for shifting the offices of HoDs and look into any other issues, the chief secretary said.
The panel has been asked to submit its report to the government within a fortnight.
The government has already decided to set up an "ad hoc capital" in Vijayawada till a permanent location is identified for the new seat of power after Hyderabad went to Telangana.
