AP govt keen to complete Polavaram project in 4 yrs: Minister

Andhra Pradesh government today said it has released Rs 701 for the acquisition of land for the Polavaram irrigation project and is keen to complete it over the next four years.
Andhra Pradesh Minister for Water Resources D Umamaheswara Rao said.
"AP government is keen to complete the Polavaram dam project in next four years and the Pattiseema project by the end of next year," Rao told reporters in Machilipatnam.
Later, during an inspection visit to the canal construction work going on at Nunna village in Krishna district, the minister said, the government has already released Rs 701 crore for the land acquisition to complete the polavaram irrigation canal works.
"The government is carrying out the canal construction work on war footing basis and has fixed the deadline as July 20," he said.
The minister also said water from the Godavari river would be delivered to Krishna river near Vijayawada city by August 15 by completing the Pattiseema lift irrigation and also Polavaram canal.
Initially, 2,400 cusecs of water would be delivered to Krishna to save the crops in both Krishna and West Godavari districts from the present drought-like situation due to scanty of rains, he said.
