AP Guv, CM pay tributes to police martyrs

Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today paid rich tributes to policemen, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty across the country.
The Governor and Chief Minister paid homage to police martyrs and placed wreath at the Police Martyr's memorial at Gosha Mahal here.
In view of increased pressure of work on policemen (due to agitations over statehood issue), the AP government recruited 28,000 police personnel including DSPs, SIs and constables in the last three years, Reddy said after participating in the commemoration parade at Gosha Mahal.
He assured all help for the welfare of policemen and their families.
In-charge Director General of Police B Prasada Rao, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma and other senior police officers were present.
This year 579 police personnel were killed all over the country while on duty and an inspector of Andhra Pradesh Special Police (Greyhound unit) KLVSSHNV Prasad Babu was killed in extremist violence in Chhattisgarh state.
Blood donation camps were conducted in different parts of the city and across districts in the state as part of police commemoration day.
