AP launches insurance scheme for transport drivers

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today launched a Rs 5 lakh insurance scheme for transport drivers, fulfilling a promise made by his party TDP in the 2014 election manifesto.
Speaking at a public meeting organised on the occasion of International Labour Day here in East Godavari district, he said so far 4.50 lakh drivers in the state have registered their names to avail benefits under the insurance plan.
Naidu asked other drivers to come forward and register their names.
Under the scheme Rs 30,000 will be paid to a driver's family on his natural death, Rs 75,000 on permanent disability and Rs 37,500 for partial disability. Besides, the plan will cover education expenses of two children up to intermediate (Class XII), he added.
Journalists working at village level will also be covered under the scheme, Naidu said.
Highlighting the welfare measures taken by the TDP-led government, Naidu said pension amount under various categories have been increased up to five times.
Speaking about the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Naidu said the division was not done properly. Educational institutes and industries were not allocated appropriately between Andhra and Telangana.
