The Government of Andhra Pradesh today sought Centre's intervention to advice the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to ensure that its legitimate water usage rights are protected.
In his letter to Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Irrigation & Water Resources Management Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao said that in spite of repeated requests by Andhra Pradesh and directions of the KRMB to follow existing protocol of operation, the state of Telangana has not complied with the same and has not effected the requisite water releases from the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam to Andhra Pradesh to meet its legitimate requirements.
Pointing out that Andhra Pradesh would be put to hardships and irreversible loss due to not effecting the timely requisite release of water to the state, he said that farmers will agitate clamouring for their legitimate needs.
"I request your kind intervention to give advice to KRMB to take over full control as per provisions of A P Reorganisation Act and ensure protection of legitimate water usage rights of AP. I also request to issue necessary advice to the board to take effective steps in implementing the protocol to avoid confrontation between the two states," Rao added.
