Even as the cash-for-vote case and allegations of phone tapping have blown up into a major feud between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the governments of the two states today sparred over construction of an irrigation project.
The bone of contention is Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme taken up by the Telangana government.
Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister D Umamaheswara Rao today asked if Telangana had obtained permissions from the Krishna River Water Management Board for the project.
"As per the (AP Reorganisation) Act, have you taken permission for DPR (detailed project report) from the Krishna River Water Management Board?...Have you given that DPR to Central Water Commission?....Have you obtained technical clearance from the Krishna River Water Management Board?" he asked.
But Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who laid the foundation stone for the project, vowed to complete it and hit out at Andhra Pradesh for objecting.
"Is Krishna you father's property? Did your projects in undivided state...Your Handri-Neeva, Pothyreddypadu, Kandaleru, Somasila reservoir, Veligonda have permissions?....Pattiseema project was started a day before yesterday for diverting water from Polavaram project to Krishna river. Who did you ask?" Rao said at a public meeting in Mahabubnagar district.
"Even if lord Hari, Shiva and Brahma came in the way, even if your grandfather comes...I will build the project. This is a vow in Palamuru," Rao said.
Telangana government would take its share of 100 TMC water as per the allotment made by the Brijesh Kumar tribunal to undivided Andhra Pradesh, he said.
