The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI), one of the oldest trade bodies, today changed its name to include the newly created state of Telangana.
The trade association will now be known as Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTAPCCI) to reaffirm its commitment to represent the interests of the new State.
After the creation of Telangana in June, FAPCCI felt that it would continue to pursue its activities in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It has substantial membership of associations and bodies working in both States, a statement from the trade body said.
"In order to specifically clear any apprehensions about FAPCCI's role in Telangana, the Federation's General Body, in a meeting here, resolved to amend the name of the organisation, which will be now called Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry," it said.
FAPCCI was established in 1917 and functioned for the promotion of industry, trade and commerce in the erstwhile Hyderabad State.
After the formation of Andhra Pradesh, the Federation extended its activities to cover all areas which were merged together to create the State in 1956, it added.
