APM Terminals Mumbai Tuesday said it handled a record over two million TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) container cargo in the year 2018.

"APM Terminals Mumbai, the largest container terminal facility in India, has achieved a record of handling more than 2 million TEUs throughput in 2018 for the first time since the terminal was commissioned in 2006," the company said in a statement.

It claimed that APM Terminals Mumbai is the only Indian port to have achieved this record in one calendar year.

"I am very proud of all our employees, contractors and frontline workforce who have all worked as a team to achieve this record performance ... this record has been achieved by ensuring safe operations at all times," said Ravi Gaitonde, COO, APM Terminals Mumbai.

Backed by the growing import-export containerised trade with the world, APM Terminals Mumbai expects to maintain the growth momentum in the coming years, it said.

It is embracing digitisation to keep up with the ever-changing trade dynamics and increasing its efficiency, the terminal said.
