The local Hindu Munnani and Hindu Makkal Katchi appealed to the temple authorities to open the Yatri Nivas before "adi amavasya" as crores of rupees had been spend on the construciton of the pilgrim centres and the money was being wasted by not opening them.
The wedding hall had been constructed about one and a half year ago but had not been put to use, said Hindu Munnani president K Ramamurthy. He had also issued a notice to the temple administration for keeping the hall idle.
Temple authorities said they were waiting for the nod from the government for conducting the wedding in the new mandapam. The temple would remain open throughout the day on August 14 for devotees to offer worship on the occasion of aadi amavasai, K Maylvakanan, Assistant Divisional Engineer, said.
