Bringing to fore factionalism in Punjab Congress in the midst of elections, former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today urged the Congress high command to appoint an acting president in place of incumbent Pratap Singh Bajwa till parliamentary polls are over.
Addressing a press conference at the residence of veteran Congress leader Laal Singh, he said the acting president should head PPCC instead of Bajwa till elections.
Amarinder suggested Laal Singh's name for the post and said Laal Singh was appointed as the acting president during 2009 elections as the then PCC president Mohinder Singh Kaypee had contested elections from Jalandhar.
"I have seen working with Laal Singh during his short stint of working president and even Congress high command is satisfied about it", he added.
It is the prerogative of the Congress high command and they would take this decision in day or two, he said.
Amarinder was initially reluctant to contest the polls but after Bajwa asked the party high command to field senior leaders at the hustings, Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi directed the former Chief Minister to jump the electoral battle from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat to take on BJP's Arun Jaitley, Congress sources said.

Amarinder and Bajwa are not in best of terms since the latter had been appointed PPCC chief.
Asked about campaigning for Peoples Party of Punjab (PPP) President Manpreet Singh Badal in Bathinda Lok Sabha seat, he said he has received three messages from him regarding it and will certainly go to the constituency after adjusting dates.
He said he will also canvass in Gurdaspur where Bajwa has been seeking re-election.
