"The Vice Chancellor being the academic as well administrative head, is expected to be a visionary with proven leadership qualities, administrative capabilities as well as teaching and research credentials," officials in the HRD ministry said.
"The candidate needs to have minimum of 10 years of experience as a professor in university or at an equivalent position in a research organisation. He or she should not be above the age of 65 years," they added.
Delhi university's executive council had in May this year nominated former CAG Vinod Rai and former ISRO chairman K Kasturirangan to the selection panel.
A notification regarding the constitution of the search-cum-selection panel would soon be issued by HRD Ministry.
The appointment of the next VC would be watched closely by academic circles given the controversies surrounding Delhi University during the tenure of Dinesh Singh, who was also issued a show-cause by the HRD ministry earlier this year over the controversial roll out of now defunct Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP).
