A delegation of Sikh leaders today assured support to Opposition PDP in the ongoing assembly polls, saying the party has promised several measures for the welfare of minorities in their election manifesto.
"A delegation of All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC), headed by its president Jagmohan Singh Raina, called on PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed here today, thanking him for the measures enumerated in the PDP manifesto for the welfare of minorities," a spokesman of the party said.
He said Raina assured full support of the Sikh community to PDP in the ongoing polls.
"Raina said that like the first two phases of polls, the members of the Sikh community would vote for the PDP," the spokesman said.
He claimed that Raina was accompanied by the heads of all the Gurdawaras in Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Sayeed said PDP believes in inclusive prosperity of the citizens of the state and if the party comes to power, all the measures enumerated in the party manifesto would be implemented in a time-bound manner.
He said the National Conference-Congress regime had "failed" to give representation to all religious and ethnic minorities of the state.
"PDP will give adequate representation to all sections of the society so as to politically empower them. In a democracy, all religious, ethnic and linguistic groups should be part of the composition of the government so that no section of the society should feel ignored and neglected," Sayeed said.
