Prices of arhar, gram and other pulses fell for the second straight day and eased by up to Rs 300 per quintal at the wholesale market today, dragged down by an improvement in supplies after the government took steps to check hoarding.
Traders said arrivals picked-up in the market after the government announced a series of measures to put a brake on soaring prices, including anti-hoarding operations and imposing stock limits on pulses held by licensed food processors, importers, exporters as well as large departmental retailers.
The government's decision to further import 2,000 tonnes of tur dal and 1,000 tonnes of urad dal too helped prices to decline, they said.
In the national capital, arhar dropped by Rs 300 to Rs 12,200-12,500 per quintal.
Gram, gramdal local and best quality came down by Rs 200 each to Rs 4,900-5,600, Rs 5,200-5,400 and Rs 5,300-5,600 per quintal respectively.
Kabli gram small variety shed Rs 50 to Rs 5,100-7,600 per quintal.
