Kayla Muller died a year ago this week. She had been taken by the militant group in August 2013 after leaving a hospital in Aleppo, Syria.
Her family says she had a special mind and heart to see the many forms of suffering and to find a way to help. A foundation has been created to honor Mueller, and the Kiwanis Club of Prescott is building a playground in her name. Northern Arizona University also established a scholarship in Mueller's name.
