"A perfect gentleman, most generous and a great man," that's how sister-in-law Geeta Bedi remembers Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh who passed away today.
Bedi last met 98-year-old Arjan Singh on Thursday and had planned a lunch with him today.
"I have known him since I was 5 years old. All three sisters would tie a rakhi on him as he didn't have sisters," Bedi told PTI over the phone.
Bedi's sister, late Teji Singh, and Arjan Singh, were married for 63 years until she passed away in 2011, a day after his birthday.
Those close to the late Marshal of the IAF say he never celebrated his birthday again.
Bedi recalls one of the last conversations she had with the Marshal.

"When we met on September 12 he talked about his old friends, about his days in Royal Air Force College in Cranwell. He was very coherent. He would say that a lot of his friends have gone."
But someone who was known to talk about growing old and "slowing down" in letters to his friends also expressed the desire to return to playing golf.
"He would go across to the Delhi Golf Club every few days and have a cup of tea there. He told me that I should start putting a little bit and get back to the golf course."
Bedi was at RR hospital throughout the day and says that the late Marshal was not known to have any heart ailment.
"He had blood pressure but apart from that we did not even know he had a heart problem. His age was against him so the doctors couldn't operate on him," Bedi said.
Arjan Singh is survived by a daughter, Asha Singh, and a son, Arvind Singh, who lives in Arizona in US and is likely to land in Delhi tomorrow night.
