Armed forces modifying curriculum periodically: Antony

In written reply to the House, he said, "The Indian armed forces study the dynamic spectrum of war including nuclear, space, cyber and special campaigns."

A thorough analysis of emerging issues is conducted and training standards and curriculum are modified periodically to ensure that personnel in the armed forces are adequately trained and geared to address any of these issues, he added.

The Defence Minister was asked whether it is a fact that in view of changing modes and methods of warfare, the Army is confronted with issue of security in nuclear warfare, space warfare, cyber wars and special operations.

On procurement of assault rifles for the Army, he said, "The Ministry is in the process of procuring assault rifles through global route with Transfer of Technology to Ordnance Factory Board. Request for Proposal was issued in Nov 2011 and technical evaluation of bids is in progress."

On upgradation of Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Antony said government has approved the Coast Guard Development Plan 2012-17 on June 11, 2012 at an outlay of Rs 16,464 crore.

He also informed the House that since April 2010 nine coast guard ships have been decommissioned and replacement vessels have been inducted into the service.

Replying to a question on extended tenures for DRDO scientists, Antony said, "Presently, only 11 Distinguished (top) Scientist are working in DRDO on extended tenure."
