Harendra Rana and his associate Dinesh, lodged in the district jail here, were being brought back last night to Agra from Ghaziabad after a court hearing, SSP Agra, Shalabh Mathur said today.
The unidentified youths opened indiscriminate fire on the police in the S6 coach of the train near Farah station in Mathura, he said, adding they escaped along with the two undertrails after pulling the chain.
Five policemen were injured in the attack, out of which two seriously wounded were referred to a Delhi hospital after being brought here.
Rana and Dinesh were lodged in the Agra district jail and facing trial for murder.

They had been produced in a Ghaziabad court and were being brought back to Agra when the police team was targeted said, Mathur said.
A hunt for the attackers has been launched, he added.
Rana was a contract killer who had been arrested by the Special Task Force near Etmadpur town of Agra district on February 20 this year.
