One of the four armed robbers who had allegedly looted gold ornaments worth Rs 40 lakh from a jeweller's shop in Tulsidham area of Manjalpur locality of the city has been arrested, a police official said here today.
The manhunt has been intensified to nab the three other armed robbers who allegedly ran away with the booty, Police Commissioner Radhakrishna said.
Gang members had entered the shop and asked its owner Kaushik Chokshi to show them some gold ornaments, after which they looted the gold ornaments and fled.
However, a mob managed to catch one of the robbers who was armed with a gun.
"The police has closed circuit television (CCTV) footage of four-member gang entering the jewellery shop. The footage clearly shows one of them carrying a rifle and other robbers carrying bags. The arrested robber of this gang is from Utter Pradesh and involvement of robbers from UP cannot be ruled out," the police official said.
According to the police official, the incident took place on Sunday when armed robbers entered the jewellery shop, hit the shop owner with the butt of a pistol, looted gold ornaments and fled the spot.
No firing took place in the shop, the police official said.
