Senior army officers laid wreath at the Kargil war memorial here on the occasion of 'Kargil Yome Fateh', also known as 'Kargil Victory Day'.
Civilians too joined in paying homage to the martyrs who liberated Kargil town after it was captured by Pakistani raiders in 1948 on May 10 by taking advantage of the thin deployment of Indian Army troops.
The troops of 1/5 Royal Gorkha Rifles and 77 Para Brigade had recaptured Kargil from Pakistani raiders on November 23, 1948.
