"Every year Nowshera day is celebrated on February 6 to commemorate the sacrifice made by Naik Jadunath Singh and other martyrs who laid their lives while fighting Pakistani raiders during the 1947-48 operations," defense spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.
The event started with General Officer-in-Commanding-in Chief of Udhampur-based Army's Northen Command, Lt Gen D S Hooda laying the wreath on the memorial of Naik Jadunath.
The army commander honoured "Veer Naries" of the army who lost their near ones during the operation of 1947.
"Financial help was extended to the flood victims and also the land mine blast victims," Mehta said.
