Army chief Gen. Dalbir Singh visited his native village of Bishan in Haryana today and received a warm welcome there from the locals, whom he exhorted to educate girls and encourage them to join the force.
Singh reached the village in Jhajjar district along with his family members and, during his over five-hour stay, he also spent time with his parents and students in the village.
Addressing the locals on his first visit to the village after taking over as army chief last year, he asked them to educate girls and encourage them to join the army, saying that girls were doing well in various spheres.
Singh also inaugurated an indoor games hall at the government senior secondary school in the village.
Sharing his success story with the students, he told them they should work hard to achieve their aim. He also recalled his childhood days and told the students about the "weapons of honesty and truth" given to him by his parents.
He told them that he had tilled land when he was young and used to play traditional games like other kids of his age.
"Realise your dreams with strong will power," he told them.
The locals recalled that Singh had always wanted to don the army uniform. They said he is the fourth generation from his family to join the army and it was a matter of great pride for the village and entire Haryana when he took over as the chief of the force.
