In a bid to thwart a repeat of last week's audacious prison break, Pakistan has deployed Army personnel at the Peshawar Central Jail, considered one of high priority since Dr Shakeel Afridi along with other Taliban militants are jailed there.
Jail authorities have been asked to stay on alert for the next 24 hours.
Afridi was arrested by the Pakistani security agencies for his alleged role in helping the US identify Osama bin Laden's house in Abbottabad.
While the army troops will be on duty, senior officers will be supervising the security of the jail, Express Tribune said.
More troops are expected to be deployed at all sensitive prisons, such as Bannu Jail, Dera Ismail Khan Jail, and Hairupur Jail, the report said.
Security forces, along with the police, set up check posts at seven entry and exit points in Dera Ismail Khan on August 2.
These measures were taken to ramp up security after the July 29 jailbreak, in which 250 prisoners, including 49 militants, were freed from the Dera Ismail Khan jail.
