Army, IAF chief stress on jointness among armed forces

Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh and IAF chief Arup Raha today addressed the top Navy brass and stressed on the need for jointness in the armed forces for effective fighting.
The Army Chief, who is also the Chairman, Chiefs of Staffs Committee, stressed on the importance of jointness for war-fighting and developing a grand strategy for the country at the Navy Commanders' Conference here, Army officials said.
The IAF chief also stressed on increasing jointness among the Services to further improve coordination in operations among the three Services.
The top Navy brass also discussed ways of strengthening the tri-services Andaman and Nicobar Command where it is carrying out projects such as the extension of its runway under the 'Project Baaz'.
The command is likely to be put under the permanent leadership of the Navy as majority of the assets deployed there in the Island territories belong to it.
The four-day conference has discussed issues including the maintenance of the Navy's aging fleet, security and safety of warships and development of major infrastructure projects.
