A total of 58 girls, in the age group of 11 to 14 years, were given training in self defence in the frontier town of Nowshera in the Rajouri district.
"In an endeavour to empower women with self-defence techniques, the army imparted martial arts training to 58 girl students in the age group of 11 to 14 years at the Government Middle School, Gagrote in the district," a defence spokesman said.
Army's qualified instructors taught unarmed combat skills and basic techniques of martial arts to the girls, with an aim to empower women with skills which makes them confident at all times, he said, adding such training will empower women to defend themselves from spontaneous or pre-meditated violence and abuse.
"These skills not only involve tackling physical threats but also the ability to identify and avoid potentially unsafe circumstances," he said.
