Army officers, jawans perform asanas on IYD

Army officers, soldiers and their family members performed 'asanas' and 'pranayam' on the occasion of third international yoga day today.
In Rajasthan, over 800 officers, soldiers and their families of the south western command performed yoga at the military station in Jaipur.
"Indian Army has actively promoted yoga for physical fitness and mental well-being as a part of the military routine," Defence spokesperson Lt Col Manish Ojha said.
Similar events were also held at Jodhpur and other military stations and units in the state, where the officers and soldiers performed Asanas as per the laid down common yoga protocol.
"The Army has recognised the importance of this centuries old practice as an effective stress buster and an alternative physical regime. It encourages its soldiers to learn and adopt various yogic techniques to improve mental concentration at work and develop a positive outlook in life," he said.
Meanwhile, in Chandigarh, officers, jawans and their family members at the Western Command also performed yogasanas and 'pranayam' as per the common yoga protocol, as laid down by the ministry of AYUSH.

The objective of the yoga session was to provide an insight into the traditional basis of Yoga and its relevance in the present day context of high stress and demanding military service, said Lt Gen. Surinder Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command who attended the event.
Similar sessions were also organised at across the military stations and cantonments of the Western Command.
Meanwhile, international Yoga day was also celebrated by the 1 Chandigarh naval unit NCC cadets at government model senior secondary school in Sector-23 A here.
Cadets from various institutions performed different yogasnas in the school ground, an Army spokesman said.
