Army paid tributes to soldier killed in Handwara

Army today paid tributes with full military honours to Naik Satish Kumar, who laid down his life while battling militants in Handwara area of north Kashmir.
"Army paid a befitting tribute with full military honours to its valiant soldier Naik Satish Kumar who had attained martyrdom yesterday during an operation in Handwara in which two terrorists were also killed," a defence spokesman said here.
He said homage was paid to the soldier in a solemn ceremony held at Badami Bagh Cantonment here.
"Late Naik Satish Kumar was a member of the Army team that launched an operation yesterday in forest of Handwara in Kupwara District.
"As the forces approached the suspected area where the terrorists were reportedly hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire in which Kumar sustained gun shots and later succumbed to the injuries," the spokesman said.
Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen Satish Dua and all ranks of the Corps laid wreath to salute the soldier's final journey, he added.
A wreath was also laid on behalf of the Northern Army Commander.
Lt Gen Dua said such exemplary acts always serve as an inspiration to the present and future generations of soldiers.
