Manzoor Hussain and Anil Kumar were on their way to their native village on September 22 when they were trapped on an island as the water level of the river rose suddenly, caused by incessant rains, a Defence Spokesman said.
"The two men were trapped for almost sixteen hours, fighting for survival, before the helicopters could evacuate them in a rescue mission by Yol based Rising Star Corps," he said.
The Army Aviation helicopters Piloted by Lieutenant Colonel Jobee Philip and Major Rohit Olhan took off from the Indian Army Aviation Base at Pathankot today despite weather being a hindrance and evacuated the marooned persons to safety, he said.
