A 28-year-old woman, arrested on charges of killing her husband, allegedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance while she was being taken inside the jail, police said today.
Saraswati Ahirwar, a resident of Siddharth Enclave under Piplani police station limits, was held for killing her husband Vikas Ahirwar, police said.
The deceased was produced before a court which sent her in judicial custody for two weeks on August 10, Piplani police station inspector Manish Mishra said.
He said Saraswati was handed over to the jail police on August 10 evening.
While she was being frisked at the entrance gate of the prison for admission, she allegedly consumed poison, Jail Superintendent M R Patel said.
She was rushed to government Hamadia hospital where she passed away on the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday, they said.

Passing the buck on police, Patel alleged that the law enforcers might not have screened her properly while taking her into custody, adding, Saraswati had hid poison inside her robe.
Inspector Mishra, however, said Saraswati was checked thoroughly by a woman constable after being arrested, following which she was taken to a hospital for medical check-up and then to the court.
According to police, the deceased had thrashed her husband, injuring him grievously over some domestic discord. He passed away on June 1.
She had also tried to hang her husband's body from a rope inside their room to give an impression that he had committed suicide, police said.
But during the investigations, Saraswati confessed to her crime, Mishra added.
Meanwhile, a judicial probe has been ordered into the suicide, police said.
