Safeer Karim, the trainee IPS officer arrested for alleged cheating during civil services examination, moved a court here today for bail.
The 29-year-old was arrested on October 30 on the charge of cheating during the exam using high-tech devices including a micro camera and a small hearing device that were difficult to detect.
Karim, in his bail plea before the principal sessions court, claimed he was innocent and was framed by the police with ulterior motive.
Karim submitted that he was a 2015 batch IPS officer and appeared in the civil services examination to get into the IAS.
He submitted that the FIR was registered against him on a complaint by the head mistress of Presidency Girls Higher Secondary school, where the examination was held.
Karim's counsel contended that assuming that the prosecution's case was true and the offence was indeed committed, according to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) rules, he could be punishable only with debarment from appearing in future examination.
