Accusing Congress of spreading a disinformation campaign against him, BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today said the UPA government was destined to be ousted from power in next year's Lok Sabha poll as it was "arrogant" and "not accountable to the people".
"In a democracy, government is accountable to the people. The Congress has become so arrogant that even after being in power for over nine years, it is not prepared to give an account of what it has done to fulfil people's aspirations," he said addressing BJP workers and supporters.
"Instead, they are seeking answers from me. Congress used money and spread the same kind of poison it is spreading today for five years in Gujarat. They ran a campaign of falsehood against me but people remained unaffected as I heard their complaints and addressed their problems," Modi said.
Slamming the Congress for "failing" to keep the promise of reining in the prices within 100 days of UPA coming to power, the Gujarat Chief Minister said, "A government which reneges on its promise has no right to govern even for a moment."
Modi said the tenures of Morarji Desai and Atal Behari Vajpayee were the only ones in history when prices were kept under check. "BJP was an important partner in both the governments and prices were under control, people got two square meals. Whenever Congress has come to power, the poor have suffered," he said.
"Delhi needs servants and not rulers. Congress will be swept away by the wind that is blowing today," he said. "Should not those who do not keep their promises be thrown out?" he asked the gathering which responded with a resounding "Yes".
The BJP's prime ministerial contender said," If people bless us and we are able to form our government, I promise you, we will present a detailed account of our work to the people every year.
