An arrow that got stuck in the head of a tribal youth, after he was shot at over a petty dispute in Alirajpur district, was removed after a complex surgery performed by doctors at a state-run hospital here.
"We took out the arrow having spring from Prakash's head in an operation which lasted for an hour last evening. The patient is currently out of danger," Dr P S Lubana, who headed the three-member team of surgeons at Maharaja Yeshwantrao (MY) hospital here which performed the surgery, told PTI today.
Prakash was shot with a bow and arrow having spring by a person on Monday night over some dispute at an engagement function in Umrakhala village of Alirajpur district. The arrow got stuck in his head, police had earlier said.
He was admitted to Alirajpur district hospital from where he was rushed to Indore.
Dr Lubana said the arrow had pierced his skull bone and got stuck 4.5 cm deep inside his head. The arrow entered his brain, but it didn't cause any fatal injury to him, he said.
For the doctors at MY hospital here, the surgery to remove arrows stuck in body parts of patients is nothing new.
"The bows and arrows are still used in the modern world, particularly in the tribal-dominated Jhabua and Alirajpur districts of MP where it is used by tribals to attack each other in case of a dispute," Lubana said.
Majority of tribals come to MY Hospital from these two districts for removal of arrows from their bodies, he added.
