Eminent medical practitioner Dr Iva Fattorini today said art in any form, being an expression of intense human emotions, has the power to heal different kinds of acute health conditions.
"Art can influence emotions and it can create deep influence on one's thought process, emotions and general health," Iva, who is the Chair of Global Arts and Medicine Institute at Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi, told a gathering of doctors and medical students while delivering a lecture on 'Arts and Medicine'.
She was in the city to participate in the lecture as part of the Kochi Biennale Foundation's (KBF) unique 'Arts and Medicine' project at Government General Hospital here.
"Hospital is a place where joy and sorrow meet. Art can create all necessary conditions for healing illness," the doctor said, adding that "healing through art is a science that is emerging. Art can humanize medicine."
"The Kochi Biennale Foundation's objective is to explore all the possibilities of art as a science of healing and utilize it for the well-being of the society," said Bonnie Thomas, KBF research co-ordinator.
The Arts and Medicine show is being conducted by KBF with guidance from Dr Iva Fattorini and Ernakulam district administration.
