Artificial lake no threat to Arunachal district
Press Trust of India Itanagar An artificial lake created by a blockage on the Polo river at Polosang in Kurung Kumey district following a massive landslide recently, has breached slightly but there is no threat to villages downstream, Chief Secretary H K Palliwal said today.
Palliwal, quoting a field inspection report by a circle officer said that there was no fear of disaster now.
Lok Sabha member Takam Sanjoy from the state had earlier written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the blockage of the flow of the river a week ago and warned of threat to villagers downstream as the drying up of the river had killed fish.
He had also warned of the possibility of washing away of log and wire rope suspension bridges being used as a lifeline by the ITBP, SIB and SSB to cross the river.
