Artist attempts to enter Guinness Book for largest hand-painted bag

A 31-year-old artist from Thane has created a 21x27 feet hand-painted fabric bag, which is reportedly as big as a two-storeyed building, with hopes of entering Guinness World Records (GBW) for her work.

Artist Manisha Ogale achieved the rare painting fete yesterday in 10 hours and 44 minutes at the busy Korum Mall here, amid loud cheers from onlookers and supporters, who had gathered in hundreds to witness her work.

After successfully completing the painting, a jubilant Ogale said she wanted to create awareness about environment protection and spread the message through the bag, which has several paintings advocating causes such as 'save water', 'save trees' and 'no plastic bags'.

"It has been my longstanding desire to create an art piece that is displayed at an international platform. It feels truly fulfilling that everything has fallen in place so beautifully. Am sure the whole of Thane along with me is awaiting an official confirmation from GWR. I am overwhelmed by the public support and encouragement I have received," she told PTI.

The super-sized masterpiece, which carries the message "Few steps can save our Mother Earth" will be displayed in the mall for a couple of days, sources said.

The science graduate, who pursued her art hobby is already a Limca record holder for creating the world's largest hand-painted ladies kurta (40x20 feet) in 29 hours and 27 minutes.

Ogale's Guinness World Record attempt was observed by art academician Nutan K and Anil Arora, Dy General Manager - IT, Raymond.

The work, which has been video-recorded will be sent to the Guinness World Record office in London for examination and official certification.

Working in art and craft industry for last eight years, Ogale has explored its different areas such as glass painting, pot painting, diya painting, rangolis, waterfall and zardozi work.
