A Keralite percussionist is getting ready to tour all over the country and conduct performances for promoting the glory of the traditional temple instruments of the state.
City-based exponent Prakashan Pazhambalacode, who recently came to the limelight by launching online classes for teaching popular instruments 'chenda' and 'edakka', will embark on a two month journey from November to popularise the instruments.
As part of the mission, "Bharatha Paryadanam", the artist will perform before selected audience in different states to create awareness about the legacy of Kerala's percussion instruments.
He said a group of 25 other artists would also accompany him during the tour.
"We are planning to begin the journey in November from Varanasi. Later we will travel across the country from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and stage performances. We hope that the mission will help revive people's interest for percussion instruments," Prakashan told PTI.
He said Kerala's percussion instruments had already been popular among drum enthusiasts around the globe through well-known festivals like 'Thrissur Pooram.'
"Our percussion instruments have a large number of fans even in other countries. We should make some conscious attempts to gain the acceptance within the country also," he said adding that the 'Sopanam School of Panchayadyam' was also supporting the mission.
