The BJP in Arunachal Pradesh today slammed Congress' nominee from Arunachal West Lok Sabha constituency for criticising party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi over his provocative statement against China.
"No Congress leader at the Centre so far dared to make such a strong statement against China's claim over Arunachal's territory... But Modi has proved his concern for the people of the state," party's state unit president Tai Tagak said in a press conference criticising Congress nominee Takam Sanjoy from Arunachal West.
Sanjoy during a press conference here yesterday castigated Modi for his provocative statement saying Congress does not believe in provocation to the neighbours, like the BJP leader did which was alarming, surprising and condemnable despite China's known expansionism attitude.
Tagak made it clear that the boundary dispute between India and China is a national issue and the BJP would never allow it to die.
"Modi in his February 22 speech at Pasighat had made it clear that Arunachal is an integral part of India and no power on earth can snatch it," Tagak said pointing out that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his visit to the state during 2008 did not make direct statement against China.
"BJP MPs from the state Tapir Gao and Kiren Rijiju during 2004 raised the issue in the Parliament on several occasions and even stalled the proceedings... However, the Congress MPs from the state hardly raised the issue in the Parliament," he pointed out.
Tagak also criticised Sanjoy for dragging party's Lok Sabha candidate Rijiju in the murder case of former MP Wangcha Rajkumar saying that the state government was not serious on the case and further demanded the government to come out clear on the status of the case being investigated by the CBI.
The party chief also alleged that the Congress was resorting to unfair means by distributing large chunk of money among the voters in several constituencies.
