Arunachal government's efforts to boost the agriculture and allied sectors seem to be yielding results as the state produced 3,895 tonnes of total food grains in 2013-14 and has bagged the Krishi Karman Award for the second consecutive year.
The state, which has shown exemplary agri-performance in 14 different categories, will be awarded with Rs one crore cash and a citation.
"This is the outcome of our master plan to boost the agriculture and horticulture sectors besides commercial cultivation of tea and rubber by involving the rural masses to rejuvenate the sector which is gaining momentum," Agriculture Minister Chowna Mein said here today.
Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh in a letter on December 11 last informed Mein that the Centre had selected Arunachal Pradesh for a commendation award under total food grain category 2013-14.
"I would like to congratulate you and all the officials of the agriculture department of your state for supporting the farmers in achieving this milestone," Singh said in the letter.
"Such awards and recognition by the Centre is very encouraging and will motivate and inspire the department and the farmers alike to go ahead in a big way to boost the agriculture sector," Mein said, adding that he would go to Delhi to receive the award soon along with agriculture commissioner Hage Khoda and director Hage Kano.
The state had won the same award for 2012-13 for producing 3.62 lakh MT food grains as compared with 3.34 lakh MT during 2010-11, an increase of 8.63 per cent of state's total food grain production.
