After registering the highest revenue earning to the tune of Rs 894 crore in 2012-13, an increase of 32 per cent over FY 2011-12, the Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to plug revenue leakages from various government departments to generate additional revenues.
Encouraged by the collection of Rs 400 crore during the first four months of this fiscal, the state cabinet has approved constitution of a High Power Committee (HPC) to achieve the goal of higher revenue earnings, official sources said here today.
The HPC would be headed by Principal Secretary (Home), while commissioners and secretaries of all revenue earning departments, deputy commissioners and superintendent of police of the districts would be its members, sources said.
The HPC has been empowered to conduct surprise inspection at various check gates and entry points where revenue collection activities are undertaken and monitor the conduct of officials posted there.
Any official found guilty would be taken to task on the spot as per law. The HPC would time to time report back to the government on the action, sources added.
Taking serious exception to the repeated violation of the status quo signed between governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam as well directive of the Supreme Court to maintain it, the government directed the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (Home) to take up the contentious mater with their Assam counterparts to ensure peace and tranquillity along the inter-state boundary areas.
All attempts should be made to amicable settlement of the issue, the directive added.
The Cabinet also approved to take up the proposal for creation of Mon Autonomous Council for Tawang and West Kameng districts and Patkai Autonomous Council for Changlang, Tirap and Longding districts with the Centre as per the resolution taken by the Legislative Assembly.
A high level delegation headed by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki is likely to visit New Delhi soon to meet Union Ministers on the issue, sources added.
