On directives of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Mein, who also holds the PWD portfolio, called an urgent meeting of the chief engineer, superintendent engineer and executive engineers of the department to take stock of the situation, an official communique informed.
He issued specific directives to the engineers to inspect the roads physically and immediately start renovation works for which funds have also been earmarked.
Underscoring the importance of the road that leads to the state's premier institutions, Mein instructed the engineers to ensure that the work is undertaken on a time-bound manner without compromising the quality.
He also sought weekly report on the progress of work.

Meanwhile, the department has clarified that the stretch of road from Bage Tinali to RGU and Khola-camp to Gumto are defacto highways and meet 'Other District Roads' (ODR) standard with limited pavement thickness.
However, the department has assured that it will take up the restoration work at the earliest depending on the weather conditions, the communique added.
