Chairing a review meeting on law and order situation in the state in view of the Supreme Court order of September 17 on the settlement and grant of citizenship to Chakma-Hajong refugees of 1964-69 at the Raj Bhawan here, the Governor said the people and the state government appear to have no objections in granting citizenship to eligible Chakmas and Hajongs, but were against their settlement in Arunachal Pradesh, an official release said.
He cautioned against anti-social elements trying to take advantage of the emotive situation to create law and order problems and said firm and timely action must be taken against all such elements, it said.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, state Home Minister Tanga Byaling, Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi, Principal Secretary (Home) Dharmendra Sharma and Director General of Police S Nithianandan were present at the meeting along with senior administrative and police officers.
Earlier the DGP and Secretary (Political) Dr Joram Beda briefed the Governor on law and order and Chakma-Hajong issue, the release added.
